Victor Cooper

Heart Recipient

Victor’s journey is truly remarkable and showcases the life-changing impact of organ donation. Overcoming pneumonia, going into cardiac arrest at a young age, and heart failure, he faced a challenging road to recovery. Victor had an echocardiogram, showing he needed a removal of fluid from his right heart calf. Victor endured so much before his heart transplant.

His doctors and the heart team got together to write a letter to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) to explain his journey and how much he needed a heart transplant. Victor is the second heart recipient of a DCD (Donation after Circulatory Death) in the state of South Carolina, which is receiving a heart from a donor whose gifts were recovered via the pathway of their heart-stopping in a controlled hospital setting.

The fact that Victor was released from the hospital just a few days after his heart transplantation. His gratitude towards his family and friends and his appreciation of life are ongoing. Victor’s story serves as an inspiration and impact on our organ donation and transplantation. He is a champion for organ donation and wants to raise awareness and educate about donation.
