As the Director of Family Support Services at We Are Sharing Hope SC, Alí Morales Sánchez focuses on the very delicate and critical donation conversations with grieving families of potential organ, tissue and eye donors to accomplish the SHSC mission.
“I knew very early on in my career how special this cause was. It didn’t take long to see how sacred that space was when working with grieving families in the hospital setting,” Morales Sánchez says. “It is in those ICU waiting rooms across the state of South Carolina that, at any given time of the day or late hours of the night, I saw and experienced first-hand that incredible generosity we speak of regarding our donor heroes. Preventing another family from feeling their heartache was the influence behind the donation decision. Its humanity at its loving best.”
The team of dedicated Family Support Counselors meet with grieving families during a very intimate and devastating moment. We partner with the health care team members to ensure that, when families receive the worst news of their lives regarding the loss of their loved one, they also receive the support and education regarding the powerfully unique legacy of organ and tissue donation.
Morales Sánchez’s last two decades of experience have focused on providing direct patient care within the OPO profession, and part of that time she spent as a bedside nurse proving direct patient care in critical care units.
Alí, her husband Eric, their 3 daughters and their 2 pups (Berkeley and Matilda) live in Charleston, South Carolina.
